Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Sony or MainConcept AVC/MP4 are rendering levels incorrectly

  • Sony or MainConcept AVC/MP4 are rendering levels incorrectly

Posted by Carlos Silva on February 24, 2013 at 1:24 am

    Hi,

I made some slight adjustments in the footage levels (Sony plugin – Vegas Pro 12), parameters “input start” and “gamma”.

In the preview, the image is amazing, but after rendering through Sony or MainConcept AVC/MP4 the black color is darker and with higher contrast.

I rendered to AVI (Xvid codec) and the levels are correctly, exactly as I see in the preview.

It sounds strange, because through XVid my output (in this parameter) is being better than through the built-in codecs provided by Vegas.

Has anyone experienced such situation? Any workaround?

    Thanks in advance,
    Cadu

As usual I have more questions than answers 🙁

What quality settings are you using when you render?
What happens if you render an untouched version of the same video using the Sony or MainConcept templates?

I’ve noticed that when I render our projects out to an MXF file. The colors seem slightly stronger and a bit darker. Maybe it’s because I’m watching it after I render it on a larger scale but it’s a good question. Wish we all had an answer.

    Thanks everybody for answering!

    Some points:

“What quality settings are you using when you render?
What happens if you render an untouched version of the same video using the Sony or MainConcept templates?”

=> About quality settings, I am using the template “internet 720p” (MainConcept).

=> If I render an untouched version the output is correct. The problem happens when I use the “levels” adjustment. I realized that to the MainConcept and Sony AVC codecs the preview is inaccurate, following somehow what is described in the article indicated by Bob. But what is really strange is that to XVid/AVI the preview is accurate, being the rendered file what should be expected.

=> So far, the only conclusion I can achieve is that the preview is inaccurate to MainConcept and Sony AVC, being the “blacks” increased more than expected when using these codecs.
