Sony Laptop (FZ21S) & After Effects?
I apologise for this as I’m not 100% sure it’s relevant, but I like reading this forum I was wondering if anyone could advise.
I have the Production Premium CS3 suite which is far in advance of my current laptop but in looking for a new computer I’ve ended up winning a Sony FZ21S! Which whilst obviously great I have no real knowledge on how well it might do for video editing & after effects work.
For a laptop it seems great, has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Gz, 2 gigs ram, 200 gig HD and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M graphics card, which all sound fantastic (For my limited knowledge of these things). However I was really looking into a desktop unit figuring it would give better performance & more ‘upgradeability’ so don’t have much idea of how this compares.
Anyone know anything about this particular machine or how well after effects might run on it? Are there any know problems with the graphics card or anything?
Sorry if off-topic but I don’t want to discover it doesn’t work well, especially if I could sell it off for something that’s more suitable.

Cheers Dave, hadn’t even thought about that! I was half wondering about replacing vista with XP (because the performance hit to the hardware which doesn’t really seem worth it), but I’d assumed that the software would at least be able to play nice.
Haven’t managed to find the big thread you mentioned, but it does seem quite a few people have had problems with vista (Adobe has a whole page on ‘solutions to the many problems there have been’ :/ ) so it looks like that’s another thought to consider.
Hmm. Winning computers is surprisingly complicated…
