Sony HVR-MRC1 in computer mode
I finally bit the bullet and got the Sony Z7U with the MRC1 CF recorder. I shot my first job with it this past Tuesday evening which was a live stage show about 1:15 in length. This is my first job with the hi def camera. I also shot it with my Sony hi def handycam just for a second camera angle. The small camcorder was just set up, manually adjusted for exposure, turned on and let run. It recorded at 1920x1080i and the picture looks really nice (but it’s sitting still).
The Z7u however was recording at 1440x1080i (I think that’s what it records at). The picture looks great on it too except when I pan across the stage. It looks really blurred and jagged.
I monitor using a Canopus ACEVDio card out to a Panasonic flat screen CRT television. I know this is not the ideal monitoring setup but is has worked fine for SD DV work.
I’m hoping that it’s just the way I’m monitoring as far as the blurred jagged look. It’s gonna make me sick to think that my VX2100 camera took better video last year of this show than this $5K hi def camera did this year. I never noticed this problem with the VX2100 footage.
I have my video properties set at 1920x1080i…also tried 1440x1080i with no change. And doesn’t matter if I preview at Best Full or Preview Full, still get the same thing.
I know that some of you have probably had this same situation and can give me some insight as to what I’m doing wrong.
