Sony hdr fx7 wont capture hdv in vegas pro 9
I have tried everything….it connected a few days ago for 1 second..and ever since then it wont read the camaera (sony hdr fx7) to capture with hdv…but it will capture dv. ??? I am using a firewire 1394 capture cord. It keeps saying device not avaialbe..wont read or pic up the camera unless I use dv. Please is there anyway to make this work ? what if I capture in dv then change the settings to hdv ? will I still get hdv quality ?? please help asap…I have a project due asap..thanks!

Go into the menu on the FX7 and make sure that it is not allowing the ilink conversion from HDV>DV. That would be your problem I suspect. Most Sony’s allow the camcorder to do the conversion at the camera to export either HDV or SD video over firewire. When you look in the menu select the one that has arrows pointing both ways…good luck!!

Tahnk you Scott! I reset the camera…found the menu..the selections are hdv..dv..and auto… the guy who let me use the camera said it’s automatically shoots on hdv..Its saying device error on vegas 9 but now does show the camera… problem now is on hdvsplit it is saying that no image is on hd! When I set it to auto to play back..it’s showing dv ?? 🙁 does that mean it recorded on dv instead ?
Is there a way to bump it up to hd ??

You can shoot in either DV or HDV and yes you have to set the camera. We are not looking for the Recording Setting but if the camera is CONVERTING HDV to DV when you are “flying in” the video. IF you recorded the footage in HDV you can fly it in in either HDV or DV (this saves a step when editing.) The camera can do that conversion for you (and this is what I was saying my previous response), and you need to set it in the “In – Out” part of the menu. If you shot the footage in DV there is NO WAY to upconvert to HDV. If you need more help on the camera, Google for Sony FX7 manual and you should be able to download a PDF for free….Good Luck!!

if you are capturing hdv, be sure you are using the internal capture app in vegas and not the external capture which is for dv.
