Hello! Here’s yet another question/problem with HDV. I’m using a Sony HDR FX 1000 set at 1080/30 to shoot footage. Everything with the log and capture process is going smooth and the camera is definitely communicating with FCP, however, after the file name is assigned and the capture button is clicked, the tape plays through the camera but all we get is a black screen with no video playback, and the tape plays through but there are no files created. Here’s the settings we are using:

    Audio/Video Settings:
    sequence settings – HDV 1080p30
    capture preset HDV
Device Control Preset HDV firewire basic
    Video Playback None
    Audio Playback Default

    In the Capture Presets Tab:
    HDV Apple Pro Res 422(HQ)

    Device Control Presets Tab:
    HDV firewire basic

As far as sequence settings go I have read that when you drop the first clip into the timeline a dialogue box should appear that asks if you want to match your sequence settings so I’m opting for this method because I can’t seem to find actual HDV sequence settings that match the capture settings.

I usually shoot with an HVX-200 and this is the first, and hopefully last time I have to deal with HDV. I have read all sorts of stuff about the “gremlins” in HDV and I’m just trying to help a newbie get started with their workflow, but this has me stumped. We are using a Mac Pro Tower with all the skills and FCP7.

We have tried some various other settings like Sony HDV Firewire option and some others but have not been able to get an image on the HDV capture screen. We must be missing something. Can someone here possibly help us past this “situation”? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Stuart Christensen.

I know alot….but not as much as the other guy.
