I am using a Mac G5 with a Motorola processor, the one before Intel came to be used in Mac systems. Wish to know from the group if the compression codec of Sony HDCAM EX is compatible with my edit system. On reading about the camera i found that the trans coding software that is given with the camera operates only with INTEL based Macs. Will be a great help if some one here could clarify this. Thanks.

Sony XDCAM Transfer 2.5.1 (rewraps to MOV) works fine with G5.
Only Clip Browser doesn’t work on G5 and isn’t necessary.

That said, ProRes HQ is something you’ll potentially want to use in your EX1 workflow and that does require Intel. It’s a really good idea all around to look into the upgrade- everything goes a lot faster especially your renders, etc.

I’m planning on getting the EX1 and upgrading my power pc G5 to accomodate HD. All the specs on the Apple site show that this should be possible. No mention of Pro-res HQ not being able to run on this box. Is it just too slow or incompatible.

    thanks,
