    Hello!

I’m doing a feature doc, shot in Sony F55. we shot both 4K and 1080p proxies in XDcam.mxf 1080p.

    1. Both 4k and xdcam proxies have the matching file names except in proxy files, it has extra s01,so2..so on letters attached to it.
Is it safe to remove the last 3 letters in the proxy folder, so it’s easier to reconnect to raw image after picture lock?
I was unsure about touching the file names within the original folder contents.

    2. has anyone worked with xdcam.mxf 1080p files in Premiere? no lagging/performance issues?
I’ve worked with xavci 1080p files with sony fs7 and I had no problems.
just wondering if I should just transcode everything to ProRes.

any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Yong

    1. Never ever change source file names.

    2. Your computer specs will determine the performance levels with the footage. If you have a fast computer, plenty of RAM (32 gigs minimum), newer GPU and the media is on a fast RAID you will have no issues. If your computer is older and slower then the proxies will allow you to smoothly work with the footage.

    Thanks for the response Greg.

    1. I meant to change the names of the proxies not the raw footage, even then is a no-no?
    I read an article from:
    https://www.abelcine.com/articles/blog-and-knowledge/tutorials-and-guides/recording-4k-xavc-and-hd-simultaneously-on-the-sony-f55

where it says “you could change the names without much consequences” so you can batch-relink to the 4k raw sources.
but I guess there’s no sure guarantee it will be okay.

You could change the proxy names I guess but it seems like a waste of time. If you follow the correct method for proxy creation there shouldn’t be a need to change any proxy file names.
