Sony ex3 audio channels
Hi!
I’m editing with premiere cs5 on a PC and I’ve received footage from an Xdcam Sony ex3 1080p 25fps. the problem is that I cant get the audio channels separated, for example I cant apply balance audio effect.
when I go to modify>audio I see only one channel. I know this camera record in 4 channels and I can see and hear them in the VLC player.I’m not sure if the solution is in the program it self or it’s a matter of converting?

Hello Hagai,
the EX3 only records 2 channels of audio, not 4. But if the camera audio settings were set up properly, you should have two discrete audio channels rather than a stereo mix.To import these clips into Premiere (i’m on CS 5.5.2) with discrete and separate MONO audio channels, you must go into Premiere Preferences>audio and select the default audio track to MONO…. BEFORE you import the clips. Otherwise it will bring in the clips with a stereo audio channel.
Just make sure you change it back to stereo before importing any music tracks or they will come in as two mono tracks.
Kind of weird but this is what I have found. If anyone has a better way I would love to hear it. It is kind of a pain in the A*s and I would love to not have to worry about changing this back and forth throughout a project.
