Sony EX1-R slow motion
Posted by Vladimir Philogene on June 12, 2010 at 7:31 pmHi, I just bought the sony ex1-R. I did everything I could to use the slow motion option but I still can’t use it. It’s say “Cannot Proceed”…
1- I verifyed if my SxS card was inserted and if he was enable to record normal footage with the camera.
2- My camera is set to 1080 at 30p
3- I put the slow motion at: 1080 30p and frame Rate at 30.What else should I do or where did I do wrong?…

June 12, 2010 at 9:16 pmyou cant shoot slow motion at 1080, it has to be at 720.
so when you so into S&Q Motion, set it to 1280/60p
that will give you your desired results

June 12, 2010 at 9:46 pmFor example:
720p24/60
720p30/60The range in 720 is from 1 to 60 frames.
In 1080 the range of Quick and Slow motion is from 1 to 30 frames.
So you could slightly slow things down as
1080p24/30
but that’s it. -

June 13, 2010 at 11:05 amSet the camera at 720p24 or 720p30, depending of the final time-base you want.
Then go to “S&Q Motion”, set it ON and select “Frame Rate: 60”.
You will record 60 fps, but the resulting file will play at 24 or 30 fps.

It is possible that you have one of the new cheaper SxS cards that does not support overcranking.
Can you post a picture of the card?Scot Lenter

June 14, 2010 at 9:36 pmALL SXS cards support overcranking.
There are only two kinds SXS and SXS-1 and they BOTH support full overcranking. The only difference is the longevity of the media. With latest firmware upgrade, the better SDHC cards support overcranking as well. Such as Sandisk Extreme Class 10.

June 14, 2010 at 9:40 pmCraig,
I have successfully over-cranked with SxS-1 but according to my Sony reps they do not support it.
In fact, I have never had it fail, so I politely disagreed with them during our training. They maintained that this was the case..Scot Lenter

You are probably right because I dont see anything on the Sony website with that limitation.
Maybe my rep was misinformed and I actually won that argument..Scot Lenter

June 14, 2010 at 9:45 pmI’ve heard otherwise from Sony on that. SxS-1 should maintain the same data rate.
https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-SBS32G1/
Sony “SxS-1” was developed to meet demands for an affordable solution to SxS PRO memory cards. The SxS-1 memory card maintains the same shooting capability as SxS PRO as well as high performance and reliability for professional use. The only differentiation between the SxS-1 and SxS Pro Memory card is the reduced number of read/write cycles.
I’ve been told that includes full overcrank support. Only the life cycle is shorter as I’ve been told and the above implies.

June 14, 2010 at 9:48 pmSony will say it’s not supported on the following
https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/cat-accessories/product-MEADMS01/
and
https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/cat-accessories/product-MEADSD01/
although with most recent firmware it does work but it very much depends on the quality of the flash card used.
