    So I have a Sony EX1.

About 2 years ago, the Component out quit giving me a color signal.

All I can get out of it – regardless of the monitor I plug into is a black and white signal.

It’s very annoying as it is a studio camera and my clients like to watch in video village.

So I figured I’d go buy a cable to plug into the HDSDI out port and plug in that way.

I attached to my same IKAN 7″ monitor that worked fine ( apart from the B&W)… but no image.

I flipped iLink off and enabled HD and all the steps the manual says to do… nothing. I switched the monitor through the various inputs… nothing.

I took the EX1 down to my local camera dealer and he plugged it into a monitor… perfect picture immediately without messing with any of the settings.

So I know the camera is set to output a picture… any idea why my monitor will not display it?

We even tested with the cable and it worked at the store… so it must be the monitor.

    I think it’s a 720p monitor… not 1080p… but I get a signal in component mode…

Any help would be greatly received.

    Thanks!

Maybe the Y component input can be set on composite also? So that it only ‘sees’ the Y channel, which is black and white.

component and composite are different connections so my theory doesn’t match..

I’m afraid I can help you. It’s a long shot, but maybe you’ve set the color saturation to zero or something? which means that all the colour is gone

it is the same on another monitor… it’s not a monitor issue… its in-camera.

Any ideas on why the Ikan is not displaying the HDSDI out? Does a monitor need to be 1080p to display that? I think my Ikan is only 720p

your monitor, as i see, does not have hdsdi input.
your original thread mentions that it’s the monitor!
out of ideas so far. sorry

It seems like you need to convert the HDSDI to HDMI for your monitor, these are both digital signals unlike the component/composite ports.

    Good Luck

OH.. maybe thats the problem 😉

    I see a B&C connector… is that not a HDSDI port?

On the camera, the bnc is a hdsdi, on your monitor, i don’t think so.
M Palmers advice is a good option.
