Sony EX1 Audio Input – 5 Pin XLR?
Hey gang. I recently purchased a Sony Shotgun Mic for my PMW-EX1 camera. I didn’t really pay attention to the Microphone connector when I bought it. I thought it had a standard 3 pin XLR, but it has 5 pins coming from the mic.
I want to keep the mic, is there an adapter to go from a 5 pin male XLR to the 3 pin XLR input on the camera? I saw some on Amazon…but it states its a DMX cable, will this work? If not, does anyone know where I can get one specifically for audio use?

Probably not. the 5 pin must break into two three pin connectors for left and right channel each.

I use those adapters to go between DMX and Microplex lighting equipment, which are either 3-pin or 5-pin. I don’t think they would work for the application you’re describing. Pinouts are probably different. I’d go with the Sony cable.

If you are still looking for a cable. I have one on ebay that I used with XDCAM HD camera that goes from the 5 pin to two 3 pin left and right connectors.
