  • Sony DVR-20 VTR, thinking about selling it

    Hello,

I just joined in the the Creativecow forum, and Broadcasting.

I do have a Sony DVR-20 VTR, and am thinking about selling it.
I would be happy to provide photos and descriptions of the unit
    as well.

It’s been a long time since I bought it, and it was
expensive, at around $75K at the time.
It’s in good working condition, playback and record.

I am wondering do any of you broadcasting engineers knows
who would buy, or what network company would be seeking DVR-20
VTR with an offer, I would be happy to look into it and sell it.

Hope my inquiry helps with answers.

    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Eugene

I think that offer would have to include something on top of the D2 that they would actually use. Maybe e-bay it and hope someone needs it for parts. We have 2 that are still in rack-mounted service, but only get warmed up for archiving purposes these days. If you can find someone with their entire career still sitting on D2, you may have a chance, but it is slim.

Don’t be surprised if Bob Zelin chimes in and says something like “make a coffee table out of it” or “use it to heat up food.”

Most people won’t even know what they are, especially the kids with the FCP systems in their bedrooms. I was a big fan of the format. . .
I had heard the Koreans bought up a lot of the D-2 vtrs back in the mid to late 90’s, I think Turner had to get Sony to help re-support their D-2’s, because they had all of the MGM library on D-2 tape, and Sony had stopped supporting the format. I worked at a PBS station in Bethlehem, PA that had 8 DVR-10’s in the late 80’s. I bought a DVR-10 and a DVR-2 portable and a bunch of tape stock off eBay, but I have to restrain myself now, Standard Def is done, I have gone into HDV now, what a difference! =:)

    Cheers,
