At start-up, the front panel reads exactly:

    SY-PANEL
    Communication
    stop

Front panel doesn’t respond to any button pushing. Although the tape loads.
I’ve re-seated the cards behind the front panel.
I’ve done a little searching on the internet but didn’t have much luck.

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

    Is it in “Remote” mode.

    First thing I though of.

I do not think it is in the remote mode. The remote button is a soft key, (F12 I believe) but the panel is locked with the words (SY-Panel communications stop) and no buttons or soft keys work. So I cannot know for sure if it is in remote mode. I looked for error codes in the manaul but this one is not listed. I’ve tried turning the machine off and on many times and re-seating cards.

    Thanks

Check the ribbon connector connection between the removable front panel and the frame of the VCR. Sometimes that comes loose.
