So I’ve been trying to capture several hours of footage shot on a Sony V1U and a Sony Z1U. They were both shot at 1080p30. I’m capturing using a M15AU via Firewire to a Mac Pro OS 10.5.6 Intel.

Or rather, I’m trying to capture. A tape will play about 10 seconds, then stop with either a timecode break or streaming error. I have been scouring the internet for days and so far it looks like the only option is to capture now. I don’t understand. I’ve logged and batch captured other HDV tapes. Is it this particular frame rate that causes problems? By the way, we have captured probably 20 or so tapes successfully. But the rest just seem completely impossible.

I have unchecked “Abort on dropped frames”; I have unset create new clip on stop and start; and I have tried changing my default timecode in device control from DF to NDF and back again. All tips I found on this illustrious forum. Any other ideas before I go bald from pulling my hair out?

which easy setup are you using?

for me only “1080 firewire basic” works with the V1U.

    everything else has a failure.

I started using easy set up HDV – 1080p30 FireWire Basic. I also tried the 1080i60 set up. And I tried tweaking things on the set up, like drop frame vs. non drop frame.

I don’t think it’s the tape because it’s happening on a lot of tapes. Like 15-20.

I’ve just started having the same problem, and I blame dirty tape heads. In the log and capture window, it looks as though there was a dropped frame and the audio skips a bit. With my setup, the L&C just starts a new clip, but I lose enough frames around the error/gap to make the clip unusable 🙁 I used a cleaning cassette when I noticed it and hope it won’t happen next time, but the tapes that were recorded for this latest job are screwed. Try running a cleaning cassette and if that doesn’t work, you might have to get your deck camera serviced. That’s what I’m looking forward to…
