    Hello,

for few days I’m having problems with my R800RAID storage.
It just hangs when I’m trying to edit some footage in FCP or when I even try to copy some files from R800 to my external LaCie drive.
I’m using this suite for 4months and everything was ok.
My R800 is setup in RAID5.
ATTO software says that everything is all right.
I also did Apple Hardware test – without any faults.

Do you know what is wrong or what should I do ?

    This is my config:

    Hardware Overview:

    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 16 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05
    SMC Version: 1.25f4

Have you called Sonnet Tech Support? What have they said? Troubleshooting something like this on a forum is much more tedious than just calling the folks who know your array.

Could be an issue with the card / driver.

Your drives could be too full.

There could be corrupted media on the drives.

You may have the drives set up to Journaled when they should not be.

Are the physical drives inside the array Seagate 7200.11 drives by any chance? If so, they need to be replaced.

    I have the latest drivers.

I send e-mail to tech support and still waiting for feedback.

I have Seagate Barracuda ES.2, model # ST31000340N qualified by Sonnetech.

    Hi
As Walter indicated, here’s what you want to discuss with Sonnettech:

Follow the link provided by Paul to see if you have those drives.

I had 16 of the 7200.11 Barracuda drives in a brand new array I received last month. MaxxDigital replaced the entire arrays instead of me dealing with any firmware updates, now we have Hitatchi enterprise drives in our new arrays.

Try running the AJA system test on your raid and see what the throughput is like:

I’ll add though that this test won’t necessarily catch any issues with the Seagates. My Seagate based arrays were running 650MB/s on each test with the AJA System Test. So for a short test, everything was hunky dory.

Yeah, apparently the issue is that the drives will randomly freeze for anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds. So in my case I had two 8 drive arrays striped together. The likelihood of any of them freezing during a 20 second test was very slim. And actually even if any of them did, I would still very high data rates from a quick test.

But when you start playing back video during an edit session, then the issue will show up as dropped frames for no apparent reason.
