We are upgrading to MC5, new computer, the works.

Our reseller originally put a Sonnet Fusion R800 in the bid for media storage, then retracted it, telling us there have been problems and that the Sonnet HD’s are not Enterprise class drives. They are now recommending AIC Xtore drives, the same OEM for Avid branded units. (And also more expensive)

So, I am curious if anyone has had troubled Sonnet drives.

I have only heard one person have an issue, and that was with FCP.

Please drop a posting if you get a free minute and let us know what great, good, mediocre, horrible or otherwise type of performance you have experienced.

    Much appreciation…thanks.

You can specify any drives you want with Sonnet – the AIC will come with Hitachi Enterprise series SATA drives, and the Sonnet can absolutely be ordered with Hitachi drives as well. The “good” Sonnet comes with the ATTO R380 card (same as the AIC, same as the AVID), and has the incredible JMR chassis, so the “good” sonnet is a GREAT product. Of course, there is the “cheap” Sonnet, so buyer beware.

and will do the same job as the AIC. I LOVE AIC, however, but the “good” sonnet is perfectly fine.
