  Sonic SD-500 encoder and MPEG file creator DV

  hi folks-

  i inherited an sd-500 and the capture software that came with it in an HP machine (sorry, do not have exact pecs on it now..). i have been using it for a few months and it works nice, though feels limited. or maybe my knowledge is the limited component! anyways, we use it in an educational setting to rip loads of archived media, primarily vhs, for dvd. i import into the sonic dvd producer to author.

  so, a few questions:

  -i don’t much care for mpeg file creator dv. are there any other good capture software apps that would work with this system? or is this a good’un and i should just learn to love it?

  -any other reccomendations for a quality mpeg encoding set up used primarily for quick turnaround, minimal fuss and authoring, just rip and burn?
