Song Vegas Pro 12 wont open.
Hi, I’m terrible with computers and programs, so feel free to dumb down the instructions to me as much as possible.
I just downloaded Sony Vegas Pro 12 and I clicked ‘Run’ and it came up with a red cross saying ‘could not start application’. So then I typed ‘Song Vegas Pro’ into Start and the program was there so I clicked it and it said,
‘The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.’
Okay, I can read so I understand what it’s saying but I don’t understand why? My computer is not old. I’ve only had it one year, so how is my version not compatible. I also don’t understand what the second half of the message was…’see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.’ Please someone explain… All I wanted was a good program to make movies/edit videos. -

Alex, hold that thought!
OK, the first, the very, very first thing you’re going to need to do is to find out, establish just exactly what version of the Operating System you are currently running. The reason? Well, Vegas Pro 12 will ONLY work on a PC that is running a 64bit Operating System. PERIOD! Previous versions of Sony Vegas could work on 32bit or 64bit, but VP12 is only 64bit.
OK, do you know how to establish just what version of your Operating System you are running?
If things go straightforwardly, in the next 48 hours, or even less, you could be making and editing videos!

I think I found the name of the operating system I’m currently running, it’s Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. Does that mean anything to you? I hope that’s the operating system because otherwise, I do not know how to find it out.Thank you!

Yes, very good, that’s the Operating System, often this is shortened to OS.
Now that we’ve determined that you are running Win7 (an another abbreviation, IT people just LOVE abbrevs!), here is a simple and super lil Video that MS (Microsoft, that’s another abbrev!) have put together to assist you to discover just what version of Win7 you;ve got there – 32bit OR 64bit.
Once you have determined which you;ve got, you then have a few options:
1/ If you have 64bit – from what you’ve already got from the attempt to RUN VP12 I’m starting to think you ONLY have 32bit – then you have another issue.
2/ Either, Install/upgrade to Win7 64bit OR get a previous version of Vegas BUT only a 32bit version.
3/ Consider using a 32bit version of one of the smaller brothers of Vegas Pro: SV-Platinum, SV-MediaStudio . . . are several flavours – but, if you are staying with 32bit, ONLY the 32bit.
You’ve decided to come into video editing with a truly Pro Editing interface. Unfortunately you’ve decided to get going with a package which is only 64bit. You’ll now need to decide, but I would strongly impress on you, even at this early start of your editing and PC journey/knowledge to consider getting to OS of 64bit capability.

As Graham pointed out, you will only get this error if you are trying to run a 64-bit program on a 32-bit OS so you definitely have Windows 7 32-bit.
It is unfortunate that Microsoft even continues to make 32-bit versions of Windows because, as you have seen, it’s old technology and won’t work with new 64-bit programs. I agree with Graham, you should seriously consider upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit. Otherwise, Vegas Pro 11.0 is the last version that worked on 32-bit and Movie Studio Platinum 12.0 still has a 32-bit version.

I ended up installing a 32-bit version (Sony Vegas pro 11) and it worked straight away! 🙂 Thank you so much for your help. I finally understand what the problem was.
Maybe in due time I’ll end up getting an OS of 64-bit capacity, but for the mean time I’m happy with the version I have now. -

my problem is that i have been running SVP 12 for a few months and now my computer will not runit anymore. The only thing i have done recently is unistall and install firefox as my browser. Any help would be appreciated. Andy.
