As editors, our job is to overlook the crap while we search for gold. I can’t tell you how many so-called editors I’ve seen who simply cannot put a story together because they are compelled to focus on and to criticize the mistakes in all of the out takes. Meanwhile, someone else comes along who’s able to skip over the crap, and they can spot the story instantly.

As a wise man once said, just because a dog left a log, there’s no reason you can’t just step right over it.
