    Hey all.

    This confounds me,

I have a timeline of UHD Alexa mini footage, in the media pool all Clip Attributes are set to Auto Levels inherently.

I am coloring on an IMAC 5k because honestly, I am coloring content that will basically only be seen on iMacs and maybe macbook Pros. So I feel it’s actually a ‘calibrated’ display for the end user experience, ironically.

when I export using Auto levels, the blacks are ALWAYS lifted. Video lifts them even more. They are lifted in quicktime and in VLC.

    So frustrating. What gives??

You are mistaken. Don’t do this. You cannot color correct on an iMac screen, not for anything actually being delivered to paying customers. It’s fine for practicing, for learning, for student projects, and for YouTube cat videos.

    Holy. Crap.

After 10 months of absolute frustration i FINALLY figured it out.

WARNING: If you are are grading on a Mac and using your GUI display for at least a ballpark estimate of what you are doing, DISABLE the Mac Color Profile.

It literally darkens the Image, it’s like grading through a half stop ND filter.

Wow. Now my Exports almost match PERFECTLY.

10 months of frustration but you only posted a note here a week ago?

This is all covered in the manual on page 664 of the Resolve 12.5 manual: “Limitations When Grading With the Viewer on a Computer Display.”

if your work is only seen on computers (web?) and does not get broadcasted. Why do you work in Auto/Video levels? and not in Full? you are adding a layer of confusion to your work.

it also seems like a potential reason for your lifted blacks.
