    Hi Everyone

I am trying to record voice over in my Final cut pro project.

When I record the voice over goes directly onto the timeline. Then I am having to drag the audio from the timeline into the browser to create an audio clip.

Is there a way of recording the voiceover in to the browser rather than directly onto the timeline?

I look in the manuals but no luck!

If you know the answer to this you are a star!

    Thanks

    Julie

I always record all voice-overs directly to TAPE.

The FCP “Voice-Over Tool” is handy if you are trying to NARRATE already-edited video while the timeline plays, but that’s not something I ever need.

The thought that the ONLY COPY of my voice-tracks are on the Mac hard-drive (no tape with timecode) does not appeal to me.

Connect your audio source to a camcorder or deck, record the tracks, then mark the best takes and capture.

    Julie,

The voiceover tool is specifically for capturing to the timeline. Capture, the same thing you use to capture video into browser, is how you record VO too.

    Thanks for the replies.

What do you mean by this?

Do you mean record oice over into Final cut via the mixer?

if you want to record your VO as a browser clip, and not to the timeline, then use File > Log & Capture…
preferably, record your VO to tape first, then capture it to FCP in the usual way

otherwise, change your Device Control to Non Controllable device
hook up you mic to the camera, then in FCP press the Capture Now button and then talk … press the Escape key when you’re done
if you’re going to go this route then you don’t have a timecode referenced source (same as if you use the Voice Over tool directly in FCP, except this way you lose the benefit of voicing directly to picture)
it might be a good idea to record to tape on the camera whilst you’re capturing your vo … then at least you have a backup of the VO on tape in case of trouble

    good luck

    Hi Andy

    Thank you for your reply.

I wondered if you know the answer to the question I posted after this one.

    Thanks

    Julie.

use garage band, record yourself, then burn the file to cd……quickest and easiest, and then all you have to do is reimport the file if you have a backup issue.
