Some Questions
Hi,
Spent a whole day in Motion today and ran into some issues. Wondering if anyone can help.
Dynamic Guides doesn’t seem to work consistently for me. I’ve got Overlays turned on, and Snapping and Dynamic Guides checked. But when I move an object to the center of the screen I don’t get the usual Snap to Center indicators on screen. Am I missing something?
To get around this, I’ve dragged out center guides. Is there a way to save multiple guides so I can load them up as and when I need to?
How do you constrain drag an element(s) along an axis from within the canvas? Going into the Inspector each time is not ideal.

Check your preferences for the snapping behavior you prefer – choose from center, edges or center and edges. That might be it. (Holding down the Command key disables snapping.)
Shift constrains the movement of objects in the canvas.
You can’t save guide layouts as far as I know – nice feature request though.
Incidentally I just noticed that snap to grid seems to be active even when the grid is not being viewed.

I just realised that I needed to activate Snap from the Menu – I had just turned it on for the Timeline. I actually want it to Snap to Grid with Overlays off, as I turn them off until I need to align something.I guess I need to add another feature request for that.
After reading your response and being unable to get Shift to constrain the movement along an axis, I found that you need to click and hold before holding down Shift. Is that how it works for you? I find it pretty fiddly to do this with a Pen. Also finding it easier to move along X as opposed to Y.
Or is it just user error again?

I find that you can either hold down shift before attempting the move, or hold it down during the move – you might be trying to do both at the same time which might not always work. I can’t get friendly with using a tablet for Motion so I can’t compare …

I know what you mean, but it’s actually easier if you approach the move with less temerity. It may seem a bit counter-intuitive, but grabbing the clip and then holding SHIFT works pretty consistently. Motion needs to know which direction you’re headed so it can constrain the move.

I guess it’s just something to get used to. Would prefer to hold down a Modifier that didn’t double up as Multiple Select though.
