Some Offline DV questions
I’m currently capturing DVCAM footage (about 80 hours) for a doc and decided to save some space by bringing some interviews in at lo-res (photo-JPEG) in order to do some selects, then recapture only what I need. Using FCP 5.0 and OS 10.4, BTW.
The filmmaker, however, has decided to try and cut some stuff together in between captures and ending up with a timeline that has both full-res DV-NTSC and offline quality clips mixing together. One thing that is great is the G5 dual can render the offline stuff in the DV-NTSC timeline on the fly, so there’s no need to render. BUT…the frame size, of course, is half that of the DV-NTSC.
My question is: is there anyway to tell FCP to scale the clips for display to the NTSC monitor, so it looks the same size? I realize that an offline PJPEG sequence will do this on the fly, but we’re working in the DV-NTSC timeline. Maybe I should try working in a PJPEG sequence instead? Could that be the answer (I’ll try as soon as I get a chance).
Has anyone else cut mixed quality clips like this?
Thanks!
