    Hello Chums,

I am new to Avid but I cut for broadcast on FCPX & Premier. Mainly news/factual/docs & corporates.

I am now doing more & more editing and I have clients asking for AVID so I am trying to get up to speed with it asap. The good news is that I have managed to recreate part of an edit I delivered a couple of months ago on FCPX. The bad news is that it is taking me a while and I need a few pointers. It’s taken most of the day for me to cut 1’30.

For ref I had a full trial, but that has expired (I was working no time to fiddle) so at the moment I am just using MC First – which I realise has some limitations, but should be OK for familiarising my self with the UI.

I am having trouble with Keyframes. I can see how to add a Keyframe to an audio track easily enough, but for the life of me I can see how to pull it up/down/left/right to adjust. Is there something equivalent to the ‘Pen’ tool in premier to allow me to highlight a keyframe and move/adjust it?

I have some keyframes inserted using ‘audio ducking’ (this seems like a cheap & cheerful catch all) but these need adjusting and I can’t grab any of them. Neither can I adjust any keyframes that I have added myself. Is this one of the First limitations or am I just being ‘doh’…?

I am also struggling with the colour correction tool which just seems to miraculously vanish from time to time (usually half way through tweaking a LUT), leaving me unable to make any colour adjustments. What is even more odd is that there does not seem to be anyway of getting it back. “Colour Correction” is not listed as one of the toll on the tool menu. Is this a “First” thing or is there a secret chamber (well probably a button) I don’t know about…?

Copy FX between clips seems to be something I am struggling to work out how to do. I can see ho w to copy an audio effect and then paste it to a new audio effect and there are clearly presets that you can create, but I can’t see a way to copy a colour effect from one clip to the next.

The other thing that bugs me, is that the app seems very buggy. It’s crashed 5 times so far today. Possibly my set up – but I don’t have any issues running Premier or FCPX.

Thanks for any tips. sorry for the noob Qs.

Audio keyframes? Option (Alt) or Shift+Option (Alt) to move. Track needs to be active. Also, there is a keyframe activation button in the UI. It’s possible (but unlikely) that you’ve turned this off. CC? Use the CC workspace. You don’t tell us which version you are on. Take a look here:

Thanks. I have resolved quite a few of these issues now. working my way through a list of functions that I need to have down to use this package!
