  • SOLUTION NEEDED AVC-Intra codec P2 cards final cut pro 6.0.1 white image

Posted by Iris Segundo on April 22, 2011 at 7:13 pm

I shot some videos with a Panasonic HD camera in P2 cards. I want to edit them in the Final cut 6.0.1. My operating system is Mac Os X 10.4.11 and my quicktime 7.6.4. I copied the complete structure with the CONTENTS folder and the lastclip.txt.
The clips were shot with the AVC-Intra codec. I downloaded the P2 Contents Management Software and the AVC-Intra software decoder (but it sas it only works with Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 onwards)
I can´t import the files with log and transfer, they just don´t appear. SO I used a friends Mac with final cut pro 7 to import the files and make them .mov, but when I try to import those movs into my final cut again, I just hear the sound but the image is complete white. Although, in the P2 contents management I have both sound AND image, but I can´t export it to another format.

What can I do? I have the final cut 7, but it´s not compatible with the mac os tiger, and I want to wait to buy the mac os x lion when it comes out.

Is there any codec or software I can download to make it work? If possible for free, since I have I low/no-budget?

    Thank you!

Update FCP to 6.0.6. That will work fine. BUT…AVCIntra NATIVE still won’t work. You need to TRANSCODE that to ProRes. SO if you don’t want to update your machine so that it can recognize the AVCIntra cards and codec so that you can transcode to ProRes, use your friends FCP 7 machine to transcode to ProRes. You can’t edit AVCIntra native in FCP 6.

Hi Shane, thank you for your indredibly quick answer.
Is there any other way to convert/transcode the clips without having to bother my friend again? any software or such?
If I have to use the final cut 7, how do I transcode into ProRes? Do I have to change some settings in the log and transfer?
Do you know if it somehow works with premiere? I also have a PC with Premiere, but the clips didn´t open there neither…
thank you very much once again!

[iris segundo] “Is there any other way to convert/transcode the clips without having to bother my friend again? any software or such?”

Yes. Update FCP to 6.0.6. Install the AVCIntra decoder from Panasonic (https://www.panasonic.com/p2). Then YOU can do it.

Yes. And you can do that in FCP 6.0.6 too. Go into the Sprocket dropdown menu…choose PREFERENCES. That’s where you change things.

    What version of Premiere?

I am not as familiar with Adobe as I am with Avid and FCP. BUt CS3 seems too old. I believe the AVCIntra codec came out AFTER CS3 was introduced.

You are correct. CS3 had support for P2 and with the last update (3.2), it had basic support for XDCAM. I believe AVC-Intra started with CS4.2

    Hi Shane,

I am unable to get FCP 6.0.6 to recognize that I have the Panasonic AG-HPX250 connected. Any suggestions you can help me with? Very frustrating. I have had older p2 cams and Sony Z7U footage without incident. It’s not even seeing the camera attached.

    Thanks!

Did you install the AVCIntra driver?
