I know “messed up” isn’t a very technical term. But I’ve experienced having a large timeline (about 90 minutes with hundreds of clips) where many clips are slowed down to 50%. One day, I found many of the clips had been remapped with variable speed: slow, fast, forward, reverse, and even freeze framed.

I found the solution by accident. But it’s in the auto-render preference. I turned it off, and now I have no problems. I had experienced problems with files that the computer had rendered automatically.

    I’m running FCP 4.5, dual 2.0 G5, 2GB Ram, Mac OSX 10.3.9.

    Trevor,

That sounds like a solution to fix a symptom of a bigger problem. But, what is the underlying cause of the issue? It certainly doesn’t happen on any FCP system I’ve ever worked on.
