Solution for Culling / Rating / Reviewing footage before editing?
Posted by Kevin Hill on April 25, 2012 at 1:10 amWedding videographer here. Like photographers, we shoot hundreds of short clips of various moments that occur on the wedding day. Premiere Pro has been great for editing, but there must be a better application for ranking and reviewing footage prior to editing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

April 25, 2012 at 9:04 pmHave you checked out Bridge? Bridge is very good for what you are trying to do. Very powerful rating and metadata features.

Is there a way to trim footage in Bridge?
I’ve been playing with Aperture 3 for the past few hours, and it seems to work pretty well for sorting and trimming videos. I’m guessing LightRoom 4 could be used similarly. -

April 26, 2012 at 3:20 pmAs of CS6….
you might use Bridge for searching/rating
then you can use Prelude to mark/trim prior to Ppro…
not quite released though….soon…

July 19, 2012 at 10:30 pmI gave Prelude CS6 a try for a large project I am currently working on. I must say I was disappointed, however hopeful for future updates on the program.
As a documentary filmmaker, I am trying to edit down not hundreds but THOUSANDS of clips. The fact that Prelude does not provide hotkeys for the most essential tasks, like switching to the next clip in the queue, makes it a burden to use.
I absolutely love how quick and easy it is to edit though thousands of photos in Bridge – it’s been this way for years. However, even Bridge CS6 doesn’t seem to do well with large HD video files. If there were a way to make this work it would be my ultimate solution! The 5-star XMP rating system is wonderful.
I was excited to see that XMP data is supported in CS6 Premiere Pro but THERE IS NO WAY TO HOTKEY A RATING the way you can in Bridge.
Adobe, you are SO CLOSE to being the perfect solution!
If I am missing anything, please chime in! It is quite possible that there are settings or preferences that can be changed to suit my needs. I am a recent convert (within the last year) to Premiere Pro from FCP7 so I have to admit I am by no means an expert yet.
