Solid script-writing software.
Posted by Alexander Gao on March 1, 2006 at 6:06 amis anyone able to recommend a good, solid scriptwriting software? I have used celtx and really liked it, but I feel like it is somewhat basic. I am willing to spend up to 300 on it.

March 1, 2006 at 3:32 pmScreen Writer 2000 is the defacto Hollywood standard with a ton of optional add-ons. The runner up for those who need “cheap” is Final Draft.

March 1, 2006 at 3:43 pmFinal Draft comes in a film version and in an AV version for two column television scripts. There is also ScriptWerx, which is a template add-on to Word that works very well. I used it for years for TV format scripts.
All the best,
Tom

March 1, 2006 at 9:52 pmThe price difference is about $20. FD is one of the worst Mac OS 9 > Mac OS X ports – slow and buggy. Screenwriter doesn’t feel as bad, as FD but looks> much uglier. There is nothing 2000 about it, more like 1993. Something you’d be running on a Performa 630.

March 2, 2006 at 3:44 pmIf you’re feeling brave, Mariner Software has a new scriptwriting project in beta.

March 3, 2006 at 3:54 amAnother possibility is the upcoming Mariner Montage:
I believe it’ll be cheaper than the others. It may combine the functionality of both Final Draft and Final Draft AV. There is a beta version available right now.
FYI, Mariner has made word-processing and spreadsheet apps for the Mac OS for some time.
