  • solarized video changes from bin to timeline…any idea why?

    Hi,
I’m working on a project which involved taking regular video footage, solarizing it while in the bin, and then brining it into the timeline. I’m actually using 2 solarization functions, both at 100%, and also lowering the opacity of the video.

    The Problem…

When I’ve manipulated the image in the bin preview window to exactly how I want to see it, I then drag the newly manipulated video to the timeline, and when it appears in the timeline preview canvas. This is where there’s a shift taking place – both before and after rendering, the image has changed – it’s darker, and softer, seems to have lost definition.

Essentially, the image’s structure appears to have changed significantly from between the bin preview window and the timeline canvas preview window without my actually doing anything else to the video inbetween.

Can anyone tell me how to get the same look and feel in both the bin and the timeline, and when I export the final version for projection when solarizing video (presuming it’s a solarizing issue)?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Well, 1st off, are you proofing your footage on an NTSC video monitor? If not, then all bets are off. There is simply no way to accurately see the effect of your filters without a proper video monitor to view it on.

2nd, your workflow is wrong. You shouldn’t be applying filters to thumbnails in the browser. you should apply them in the viewer prior to editing the footage in the timeline, or you can apply filters to clips in the timeline after the fact. Either way, you can view the results of your work on your external video monitor.
