I have no idea if this is the right place to ask this question, but it seemed better than any other forum I could see on the Cow’s list. If I’m in the wrong place… apologies.

I’m not a PowerPoint person (I think I’ve used it 2 or 3 times in my life), and I don’t even own a PC (go Mac!), but the folks doing the slides for my church are. I have been looking for some kind of software tool that they could use to evaluate contrast between text and background on the slides that I look at every Sunday morning. I’m sure they look fine on the monitor in the office, but the projector (new bulb and all) turns them into an eye-hurtin’ experience (and I have good eyes – what about the little blue-haired ladies!).

My hope is for some app that would evaluate the PP slides. They are running Windows XP on a PC tower.

Anyone have any idea if this even exists, or should I be saving up so I can send them to design school?

    Ken –
The best (and cheapest) test for contrast is to simply print the graphics from Powerpoint to a black and white (greyscale) printer. When graphics get converted to greyscale, you can immediately see whether the contrast levels are acceptible or not. Try, for example, putting dark blue text on a dark red background; while the color version may be slightly acceptible, in black and white the text disappears.
