Soft titles

Just a few days into using PP CS6. So far, loving it.

One issue I have come across though. My titles seem soft on export. Especially noticeable when placed against a graphic file with text in it.

My sequence is DVCPro HD. I’ve tried exporting natively, transcoding directly to my deliverable format (h264 @5000kbps), and transcoding to ProRes then h264. Nothing seems to make a difference. Titles just look soft. Within the program, things look clean and sharp. Only on export do they tend to fall apart.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I am new to Premiere, so it very likely could be user error.

Open CL/Cuda ob or off? Maximum render bit rate etc… all checked?

Sorry, forgot to include my specs.

Running on a 4 yr old MacBook Pro. So, no CUDA, just a good old NVIDIA GeForce 8600M. So just using the software only Mercury Playback

I did render at Maximum Bit Rate. Helped a little, but still fuzzy. Just made the export time dramatically longer!

What format are the titles?
Internal Titler?
EPS? .ai or psd? Jpeg? If it’s raster make sure it’s not over 100% scalling? Motion blur settings weird for framerate?

Internal titler. No scaling, no movement, just a fade up and down.

I’m trying a pass with the titles created in Photoshop to see if there’s any difference. I did have a jpg graphic that had some text in it that looked fine – actually how I could tell my internal titler text was soft.

Try a different font? Some of them are intermittent in flakiness. I had the Univers set act up on me, good, no good, render error, no render error etc… Just could not use it. Works great in print though or saved as an eps/.ai for titling.

So, just exported a version with the titles created in Photoshop. Everything is nice and crisp. So it appears the internal titler just doesn’t make text as sharp as I would have hoped.

Maybe there’s still something I’ve missed… I’ll have to keep playing with settings.

I just got a script that has a bunch of supers on it. I’ll probably have it done by Thursday. I’ll do a test in CS6 and CS5.

Looks like all my graphics are a bit soft in CS6. The supers that I use are PSD files that are the same for all projects. My CS6 renders look soft and also there is a gamma shift. My renders are darker for the same projects. Strange things happening in Premiere Pro land for sure. Let’s hope Adobe gets this mess fixed. Soon.

I guess I’m glad it’s not just me…
But, yes, hopefully they will address the problems soon.

I am having better results with using PSD titles rather than the PP built-in titler. Extra steps, but better look.
