Hi, I’m wondering what’s the best way to get a soft effect (I’ve seen it used in shows like Oprah etc) where the whole picture has this soft glow to it…..

Hmm…seriously, the only way I’d see this is to use the Magic Bullet Suite v.2, Look Suite > the Unbloom look. This look is exactly what you’re seaching for.

If you don’t have enough money, maybe by adding the ” Remove Grain “, the ” Glow ” and the ” Level ” effect(s), you could get something quite similar. Just crank up the Glow Radius, and with a lot of tweaking, you might get what you wished for.

You could always go on Andrew Kramer’s website (http://www.videocopilot.net) and check out the ” Blemish Removal ” tutorial.

    Good luck!

And place the filter in front of the monitor, uh? 🙂

Besides Sapphire Effects “Glow” try the following:

Use the slightly blurred luma of a picture for determining where a blur takes effect.

Duplicate your footage layer. Call the Layer on top i.e. “masklayer”. Use your favourite CoCo for turning it to grey-scale. Add contrast, lower black, add a little blur, play with highlights… whatever. Duplicate the lower layer again, call this dupe i.e. “blurry” (or “fluffy” oder “swampy” or ….. err- excuse me). Tell blurry, that it has a luma-trackmatte: “masklayer” (you know how to do that?).
After that apply a warm color correction and a little gaussian blur to “blurry”. Play with it

Thanks for all the tips. Most of my show is cut in avid so a plugin that can work with gasket elastic would be great… but I’ll try some of the ideas and see how they play out in EA….
