  • Soft Gradient Wipe?

Posted by Angela Zumbrum on September 23, 2008 at 10:42 pm

I am editing a wedding. I am using a lot of Gradient Wipes, set to be extremely soft. The playback is perfect in FCP. However, the final Burned DVD copy is playing the wipe with no gradient or softness…it is basically a straight edge line? Does anyone know why this would happen? I have several segments on the DVD ie. Montage, Ceremony, and Reception. I have used the wipe within all of them. I compressed the Ceremony and Reception before burning. But…the Montage is a self contained, non-compressed Quicktime file and the Gradient Wipes are the same on this too? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Angela,

Your workflow should be along these lines, export via QuickTime (not QT conversion)self-contained using your sequence settings. Put this in Compressor and select 90 min. Best quality. Then put the m2v and audio file in DVDSP.

If you are not following these steps, this could explain your problem.

BTW, just to make sure, open up your exported movie in QT and see how the transitions look. If they’re okay, continue, otherwise, you may have some conflict going on in FCP or your plugins.

    Have a wonderful day.

Thank you for your help. I am glad I tired the Quicktime playback first. The wipes are horrible within QT. What steps should I take next to check my FCP plugins? Thank you.
