Can anyone suggest a soft or diffusion filter for interviews in FCP X? I have shot three interviews of women of a certain age, and the detail in HDV is slightly less than flattering. I had a glass Tiffen Soft/FX 2 filter on my Sony PD170 which produced a very pleasing effect. Tiffen has indicated they are considering FCP X for their Dfx software, but the client is waiting for the video.

Tiffen is currently investigating Tiffen Dfx compatibility with FCP X for a future release

I made an FCPX template that is specifically aimed at addressing this kind of issue – not an overall diffusion but a set of tools for focussing on the skin areas:

Thanks Simon. I remember reading about this last month, but didn’t download it as I didn’t think I would need it. I will give it a try.

    Hi Gerry

I did also make a diffusion filter as part of another effect (ability to diffuse whites and blacks separately) – if you’re interested I could revisit that. It gives a pretty nice effect much more like a camera filter if that’s the look you’re going for.

There’s also Sheffield Super Glam, which installs with FxFactory. Paid filter, but there’s a trial period.

Thanks Oliver. The Super Glam plug-in looks like it might be the answer. Although it’s a paid filter, it is reasonably priced.
