so weird, audio tracks won’t unmute
Hey everyone I’m working on a project in Avid Media Composer v.3.0 and i’ve got 20 audio tracks. I was doing some sound editing and I was soloing and un-muting these tracks as I went but now i’m trying to select them all and it won’t let me.
I’ve tried muting them all and I start at A1 and work my way down turning them on but when I get down to A17 it automatically un-mutes A4. So strange and frustrating. Does anybody have a solution??

You cannot play back more than 16 tracks in realtime. Unfortunately.

As Job stated there is a limit on the total number of audio tracks you can play at once. If your audio is set, use the audio mixdown and replace the audio in the timeline. Before you replace it, I would make a new timeline with the original audio in case you need to make changes later.

WHAT??! That’s absurd. How am I supposed to know if my audio is ready to be mixed down if I can’t hear it all together?

The way I have done it in the past Nat is to do an audio mixdown of tracks A1-A16 and edit that into track A17 and mute A1-A16. The advantage of doing this is that audio mixdowns are wicked quick, and laying the mixdown on a new track and muting the old means you don’t make any destructive edits. If you don’t like the mixdown you just unmute A1-A16, tweak it and replace the mixdown on A17.
This effectively gives you another 15 tracks to play with before you have to do another mixdown.

Well, I’m not a fan of the 16-track playback limit, and same goes for the 24-track limit in the timeline. But they are there and have been for quite some time.
