  • SO confused about Anamorphic presets and capturing.

I shot a video on my SD camera in widescreen.

When I was preparing to capture I changed my Audio/Videos settings to DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic for both the Sequence and Capture Presets.

The only thing is that when I capture it, it looks so squeezed; like the bottom and top are crushing down too much. When I play the digitized footage back into my camera it still has that squeezed look compared to how it looks when I play the tape back on my camera.

On another note, I just went up to the browser and turned off the “Anamorphic” setting on my sequence. It made the video pop back to what it looked like when I shot it.

I guess I’m wondering which is the correct image and how my settings should be set.

    Thanks!

    Sal

If you set the sequence to Anamorphic, it maintains the image in the “squeezed” format.

uncheck that box in the Sequence settings.

It sounds like it might be the case that your camera’s widescreen mode records letterboxed 4:3 instead of true anamorphic 16:9. If that’s the case, capturing the video as anamorphic and editing in an anamorphic sequence would create the distortion you described.
