Ok, I finally have some time to upgrade to FCP 7 but was curious of everyone’s opinion if I should upgrade to Snow Leopard as well. I read their were some issues in the past but I’m hoping all the bugs are worked out by now.

I have an 8 core 2008 Mac Pro 2.8ghz with 16gigs of ram and an older AJA Kona 3 card.
I plan to do a clean install of everything on a new hard drive so I can keep the old one just in case. As well as rebuild my 4-drive raid.
I will also run CS4 Master collection on this machine.

I did this on my macbook pro without any problems but I rarely use it for long edits.

    Thanks

I’ve been running Snow Leopard since it first shipped, have had no problems at all on my older 2006 quad core Mac Pro w/ 16gigs RAM.

I waited for the 7.0.1 release of FCP back when it first came out to do my upgrade, figured most of the major bugs would be fixed with that first update.

From that point on I have had no issues running FCP 7 in Snow Leopard. I’ve done a few long form edits with no issues at all.

If you are going to take the time to upgrade, I’d start with a fresh install of Snow Leopard. Some newer software packages require Snow Leopard. Might as well keep up with current technology, eh?

    Your system will last longer.
