snapshot/choppy effect
How would I go about making a fast “snapshot scene”/”choppy effect” with my video? I’m trying to make a vid for my friend’s birthday. The effect I’m going for is like the beginning part of this video:

You can use a velocity envelope to speed up, slow down, stop, and even reverse the video and rock it back and forth. The choppiness in the beginning can simply be done with still image frame grabs.

undersample the video
1) right click video clip
2) Properties
3) undersample – change it to less than default

How exactly would I go about getting still image frame grabs? Sorry, I’m a newbie at this. I was thinking about saving a lot of snapshots in the clipboard and putting them on the timeline..would this work?

I would start with the Save Snapshot to File… button right on top of the Vegas Preview window. (it’s the diskette icon but no one knows what a diskette is anymore) 😉
Set the preview to Best (Full) before you take the snapshot because it uses the resolution of the preview. You also might want to set the project to Progressive before you take a bunch of snaps just so that they are not interlaced but if you’re only using the snaps in the video it will be interlaced anyway.

Ok I did that, and i dragged them in order onto the timeline. When it plays, it stays on the same picture for over 5 seconds. How can I make it faster?

Make the events shorter. Just drag the right side of the event toward the left.
