  • Snapping to markers?

Posted by Dirk Dejonghe on January 16, 2012 at 9:54 am

I am trying to sync a number of shots where I have markers in both the video and separate audio channels. In PPro I can turn on ‘snapping’ and when the audio marker gets dragged anywhere near the video marker, it will snap into position and I have a frame accurate edit. I MC6 I cannot achieve this function, how do I get it to work?

    Thanks,

    Hi Dirk,

Rather than putting them together on the timeline I would recommend using Avid’s autosync function. I usually use mark in-points rather than markers when using it as its easier to correct the position of an in-point but I am almost certain it would work with markers too.

Just put the audio and video files in the same bin, select both and choose autosync from the clip menu and there should be an option to sync using markers. This will created a new subclip with the video and audio synced.

Use the method Gaz mentions for syncing.

But to answer your question about snapping to locators, try one of the two options I use…
    – Map the “Go to locator” key on my keyboard. I have it mapped to the Shift+A (previous) and Shift+S (next).
    – Or if you hold CTRL (CMD on Mac) and click near the locator it will snap to it. This also works with edits.

    Hope that helps.
