I’ve been frustrated by this one for years…

FCP’s snapping function has some new capabilities lately, but I still don’t think I can do what I want to do with it:

Is there any way to configure the snapping tool such that it is ONLY ON when I press AND HOLD a key, such as the N key or the CONTROL key or any key I map to, while moving or trimming a clip in the timeline? And it would then always be OFF when I do not press and hold that key?

It currently TOGGLES with the N key, but I never know if it is ON or OFF until I see it work, or if I force myself to look for the green-lit indicator.

So, again: ON only while HOLDING down a key and simultaneously moving or trimming in the timeline, and OFF in all other instances.

    Does this exist? Many thanks.

Regrettably, the answer is no at the time.
Pray for an update that makes sense.

    Frustrating. But thanks for confirming.

Anyone have a connection with the FCP development team? This is such a simple feature and is the last lingering addiction I have to my old AVID keyboard, and it is nothing short of the pebble in the shoe. It changes my workflow throughout the day, every day…

Currently if you have snapping off and are mouser down, like dragging something, pressing the N key will toggle it on. It will return to being off as soon as you release the mouse.

    All the best,

    Tom

Ya know… that’s not so bad… I can develop that habit. Thanks for pointing this out, I should have spent more time analyzing the functionality of it before posting.

Is it possible the pebble is gone?

    Many thanks.

YOu can easily determine if this is turned on by looking at the Snapping indicator on the upper Right of the timeline.

I just clean instal of FCP 7 and I for the life of me can not find the snapping key. It is not above the timeline on the right anymore. Or a least not on my installed FCP7. Is there some hidden place I am missing. A button that at least makes it show up. I have been searching the net and every demo or screen shot I see, has it there. Need this feature bad!!! Any ideas would be appreciated
