  • Smoothing an abrupt camera panning?

Posted by John Mayer on October 8, 2012 at 10:17 am

I am trying to smooth out a shot where the camera pans in a landscape, but the camera stop very abruptly, I cannot reshoot the sequence again so I try to recover it to add a kind of smooth movement. I tried the warp stabilizer but it looks too strange.

I wonder if there’s a good technique to make what I want happen.

You can try Time Remapping. Enable time remap for your footage and then make a key frame few frames before the End(or where there is a jerk). Now Easy ease the last two key frames and it will give you a smooth stop.

You are right. Easy ease just on last key frame will give the best result 😀

is that possible without time remaping thought? I’ve shoot in 24fps, slowing down the fps will worsen the effect to me.

Well people usually suggest the easy route when they don’t have every infos. I can understand them, I often think there’s only good one approach.

I can play with panning, by playing with the size of the video, the footage has a greater amount of resolution so I can play with some panning and zooming effect. I don’t know if I could work on something around it.
