Smooth movement – more key frames?
Hi all. I’m very new to AE (just a few days!) and I’m struggling with a basic concept.
Is there a way to increase the number of key frames in a x or y position movement so that I can make an object move across the screen in the same amount of time, but more smoothly? I have some animations that move from left to right in a period of about 2-3 seconds, but the movement isn’t really all that smooth (even when I have exported the composition to uncompressed AVI).
My composition setup is usually 720×480 @ 30fps.

What do you mean by more smoothly? With a gradual acceleration at the start of the movement and a steady deceleration at the end? You may want to try easy ease keyframes (check your help file). You may also find Aharon’s podcast tutorial on roving keyframes useful:

Its likely that you render file is skipping frames on playback…

Sorry for the late response. Been working away this week.
OK, to hopefully give you a lot more info I have decided to upload a test comp for you to take a look at, and also a rendered version (Quicktime H.264) of my comp. It’s very basic, just some text scrolling, and that’s it!
Now, I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe I am being fooled a little by my monitor as it is a LCD one (in particular a Dell 2408WFP). I suspect the response time being a little slower than a standard CRT is not helping matters.
Anyway, I would appreciate it if someone would take a look at my AE comp and tell me if I’m doing anything the wrong way, and any other tip for smoother scrolling text. Maybe it looks fine to you?!
