    since the streak in the tutorial is created by keyframing the emitter (well, the null hat the emitter is parented to), it may be that spacial interpolation of your position keyframes are set to linear, so you are getting hard angles at every keyframe.

    select all your position key frames for the null. then choose animation>keyframe interpolation… from the window that opens make sure that spacial interpolation is set to auto-bezier.

    you can adjust the handles on the bezier curves to fine tune the path if needed (this actually converts the point to continuous bezier, but that’s fine, if you want to get it back to the original, just use the keyframe assistant to set it back to auto-bezier).

    Good points Kevin. I’d like to add that the Smoother Keyframe Assistant may also come in handy here.
