I have a sphere that I want to look more topographic. I create a landscape object/primitive (perfect for my topographic look)and I proceed to try and match the edges of the landscape object to the sphere curve so that it actualkly looks as if it grew out of the sphere. Everything I’ve trie it simly looks like the landscape is simply sticking out of the sphere.

I tried connect objects and it just creates a screwy looking sphere.

Is there a way to sculp a landscape out of the sphere easily?

Is there a way to easily attach the 2 objects so they appear to be one?

have you tried the Spherical option in the Landscape?

Yes. It just makes what looks to be a balled up crinkly (sp) piece of paper. No real distinct look of mountains growing from the sphere itself which is what I’m going for.

play with the Sea Level and Y Size or add a sphere in the same place and scale it so it has mountains growing from it or do a sub-poly displacement of the sphere with a good bump map.

I think the subpoly is the way to go. Did a couple tests and acheived the effects I was looking for, it just becomes hard to add other objects to the surface but I can get around that I think.

Also I tried using the paint brush tool (don’t know official name) and set it to pull and linear and was able to sculpt mountains fairly well from the surface.

Finaly found the link that is inspired this question. may help add some color
