Smooth camera moves?
Posted by Hiostt on October 20, 2005 at 6:50 pmHow can I make smooth camera moves? Like if I want my camera to move just same circle all around again, it is very hard to do smooth circle move with key frames by your self. Hope you guys understand what I mean 🙂

October 20, 2005 at 7:15 pmStraight out of total training:
Create a new null object, make it 3d, parent the camera to it and rotate it. It will act as an axis around which the camera will make a perfect circular pan.
That being said, I think it’s still pretty clumsy try to animate cameras along bezier paths (oriented towards point of interest or not) since I’ve found that AE is prone to getting really really confused about interpolation is 3D space. For example you set two identical keyframes 10 frames apart and somehow the camera wiggles back and forth during these 10 frames. Anyone know why this is?

October 20, 2005 at 7:45 pmI know what you’re talking about. That really annoys me too. The reason for that is that instead of creating sharp points, AE puts litttle vectors on them. The way to get rid of that is to remove the vectors on both keyframes manually, using that angle tool — the same one that’s used for editing masks. Also, if the keyframes were easy-ease, easy-in or easy-out, you should create extra keyframes for the begining of your hold and the end that are straight. Of course all of that is a huge pain in the ass, so if the pause is not too long, sometimes I just put a key frame for every frame it is still. That’s a sure way. Have fun.
That’s a cool trick with the camera. -

October 21, 2005 at 5:32 amIf you click on a keyframe and go to spatial interpolation and allow it to rove that seems to alleviate some issues with the Camera motion. Its good for animating just about anything actually…
Also although you probably all know this but if your camera comes to a stand still and and POI doesnt stop moving at the same time as the camera you get weird jumps.

October 22, 2005 at 9:31 pmit is linear spatial interpolation. Go to your preferences and set “Default Spatial Interpolation to Linear”. If that is not checked AE will try to create beziers inbetween keyframes. Even if you copy and paste a keyframe, it will create a bezier that loops around to itself.
I use bezier interpolation alot, but I ALWAYS start out with linear and add my beziers as needed.
