    Hi,

I just tried to stabilize a shot, which was handhold and should give more the appearance of a Dolly Out movement. It did work, but there are really weird, morphing looking like moments in the footage now. Looking a bit like CGI added vibes of an earthquake.
Any idea how to get rid of those – so that e.g. the shot is less smooth, but without this effect? What can I adjust in the Smooth Cam settings?

Unfortunately, this is the fate of smoothcam if there is too much movement– it tries to be TOO smooth, which wobbles your image. If you have final cut studio, I would recommend sending the file to Motion to stabilize. In my opinion it does a better job and is faster. If you have FCE, export the clip and send it to iMovie to see what you can get. Many will argue that iMovie is a “less capable stabilizer”– and they would be correct. However, in instances like this where you don’t want it SUPER stabilized, iMovie does a phenomenal job. It will use a planar based stabilization instead of giving you all the wobbly stuff. Of course you’ll then have to export back to FC– but your results should be better. Hope this helps, I’ve tried everything I can think of to stabilize my shots. I’d also recommend building a little DIY stabilizer for future shooting. I made one for about $30 and its amazing how much it can help.
