I have uploaded the 25-min video to my site — https://www.thesecularspirit.com — but it is 668MB, much too big for anyone to download in a reasonable amount of time.
I saved the file in Windows Media 9 with 2 passes, but I do not need that much image quality.

What settings do I use to make a much, much smaller file?

Is there a format that allows the user to view while buffering?

    Thanks!

The Adobe media Encoder offers “Presets” for each Format. Choose “WM9 NTSC 256K Download”…the result will be about 2 MB per minute.
A 25 minute video will buffer too long on a HTTP server before play begins. Cut the video into thirds or use a “mms” server for true streaming with much less buffer times.

Thanks, Mike. That seems to have worked. It’s now 52MB, and on my cable connection it downloads in less than a minute.

    What is an “mms server”?
I store my web site on an ISP out of the mid-west called “core.com”

If you want to take a look at the package and comment further, it is located at https://www.thesecularspirit.com

    Thanks again.

The size and quality are fine the way they are. I have editing suggestions, but that would be for a different thread.

I guess you can tell that I am a novice with Premier Pro. I consider myself lucky to have anything out there at all. I started knowing nothing, and worked my way through with the Total Training DVDs.

So, recognizing that I am very new to all this, some overall editing suggestions would be welcome.

Your clip buffered for several minutes before playing on my 500+ KBs cable connection…way too long.
“mms” is an internet protocol for streaming Windows Media Video, requires special server software *Windows Server*. It reduces the buffering times considerably.

Most video being stream uses You might expirement with encoding the video using one of the Constant Bitrate Settings “CBR” settings if you intend to stream the video from your site. This will create a file that can be “progressively” downloaded – the video will start play when a sufficient amount has been downloaded, and then it will continue to download as the viewer watches the video. As try changing up the frame rate and audio settings. Lots of streaming web video is using 15fps and lower quality audio settings (32k or less). Often times, websites might make a higher quality version available to download as well…

As far as the edit goes, I didn’t have time to watch the entire thing, but I found the quick flashes of black frames between cuts to be distracting. Might want to consider moving the clips closer together to avoid gaps between them and then adding a cross dissolve transition or something similiar.
