  • Small pixel art becomes fuzzy when scaled up

Hi Everybody. I’m working with small pixel art that I want sized up in Premiere, but it keeps coming out as fuzzy instead of the pixelated effect Im going for. Plus, it can only be scaled up so much before it just stops. Is there anyway in the settings to get around this?

What are the dimensions and format of the graphic?

There is no way for Premiere to scale up a small, pixel-based photo (JPEG, PNG, etc) and have it remain clear. You’d have to first make the pixel art bigger in whatever program you made it in. If you’re working with a 1920×1080 Premiere timeline, your image should be closer to those dimensions if you want the quality to remain good.

This is what I mean: https://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/pixel-vector-graphics-difference/

Alternatively, use Dynamic Link and turn your pixel art into an After Effects composition. If you scale up the image in After Effects, with the quality toggle for the layer set to ‘low’ (and don’t let the renderer override it), AE should scale the image up and keep it ‘chunky’.
