  • Small Emergency. Need to find out default FCP export settings for H.264

OK, so I’m a Premiere Pro user and I’m submitting to a school film festival. Problem is the judges will be veiwing off the internet so we need to export and upload the videos. Here are the instructions that I see.

First, export your file as an H.264 encoded Quicktime File. WARNING: This process will take time!
In Final Cut Pro choose File -> Export -> Using Quicktime Conversion.
If your project is in HD, click on “Options”, then “Size”. For “Dimensions” choose “Custom” and then specify 50% of your “native”
resolution for the size. For example, if your “native” resolution is
    1920 x 1080
    enter
    960 x 540 in the size box
    1280 x 720
    enter
    640 x 360 in the size box
If your project is a Standard Definition (720×480) project, you do not need to specify a “Custom” size, just use the defaults.
No other changes to the Quicktime Export settings are necessary.

OK, now in Premiere Pro, the defaults are different than in FCP. I need to know things like:

Baseline settings – Baisline, Main, or high
    Level -1.0 to 5.1
Bitrate Encoding – CBR or VBR 1 or 2 pass
    Bitrate in Mbps
    Multiplexing settings
Audio settings with codec, bitrate and Frequency

I tried it once and the video that came out was really choppy and unsteady. I just don’t know what these setting are in FCP. Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much!

I think Ken Stone can answer this better than me, he has nifty screenshots.

Thanks so much. It actually was sorted out. I needed to use the H.264 codec under the quicktime conversion and not the straight H.264 conversion. Oh well, all was submitted in time.

Maybe this kind of amazing information from Ken, exist also for Premiere users??

I have similar problem. In the application for art school we got this instruction:
“Your film must be in QuickTime with maximum solution 720 x 576 pixels”

After I export it, my file wight 1 GB!! How can i reduce the size without change the QT format??

I’m using Pr.CS5 and my settings are-

    format-QT
    Codec-H.264
    5 min
    DV pal Wide screen 720*576
    fram rate -25
    field tips- lower first
    Audio- 480 Hz, stereo, 16bit.

I tried to play with the rest of the settings (like Quality, key frame, bitrate settings and audio) in order achieve smaller file, but it’s insist to stay as 1.1 Gb exactly!!
Is it possible to stay in the setting with – Q.T format and to have file smaller then 300Mb?
Do i missing something in my settings?

    The dead line is tonight
    PLZ Help….

If you lower the bitrate, your file size should be decreasing.

Post a screenshot of the settings window you’re adjusting.
