  • Small artifact on footage…..

Hello everyone, just bought the Canon 5d Mark II. I did some preliminary shooting with it, and I’ve noticed a small white artifact in the bottom right hand corner of the video that I’ve shot. It’s not quite as clear on stills, but on the video it is extremely visible. Anyone familiar with a problem like this? It’s not anything on the lens, because I’ve played with the focus (and tried different lenses) and the artifact stays in focus no matter what. Any ideas?

    Could be a “hot pixel”

    Or dust on your sensor…

I noticed similar on clips of jazz band on stage in concert, but, put it down to light hitting dust spot. Appeared undetectable to naked eye, cleaned lens and disappeared. Could be dust spot on sensor, but, hold camera in horizontal position when cleaning happens, no problems re-occurring, camera has been in use for over 18 months, never had to do manual clean .

[Bob Dix] “hold camera in horizontal position when cleaning happens,”

By “when cleaning happens” do you refer to the self-cleaning procedure that the camera itself performs on start-up?

    Yes, Bob

You probably follow the Canon Instructions any way.

But, always clean lens during shooting in any case, you can manually clean dust of sensor in any case by following Instruction manual, otherwise back to Canon for Service ??????????

Just shot 400 clips and HD 1920 x 1080p in Tasmania no problems.

    Good luck
